First seen at CEL Manila 2009, the Philips Cinema 21:9 is now officially here in the Philippines. The Philips Cinema 21:9 TV is the world’s first LCD television using a 7:3 aspect ratio (or 21:9 as a marketing term, compared to the common 16:9), designed to show films recorded in CinemaScope or the modern anamorphic format of 2.35:1. The main benefit of this screen ratio is the absence of the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen when viewing content in this format. The first model launch was available in a 56-inch screen size, although was no taller than a conventional 16:9 42-inch television.

I heard there will be only 20 units will be sold in the Philippines. So expect these babies to show up in swanky stores around Rockwell and Greenbelt. Also, check some digital camcorder reviews, a good camcorder plus a great lcd tv makes an excellent combination. So, who’se home on a weekend? Bring out the popcorn and be ready for an amateur movie!
