Make theater popcorn butter at home
I just love weekends and spending time with my husband. Since we are usually busy, we make sure that we still have time for each other! During the weekend, we do a lot of things such as going out of town, or having a simple dinner together, and sometimes having a massage! But most of the time, we end up going to the mall and watching movies – Yes, both of us love to watch movies. But our movie date would not be complete without our popcorn! Who doesn’t love to munch on snacks during a movie?
So before we go inside the movie theatre, my eyes are already scanning the room and looking for snack stands with the machines popcorn. Though there are other snacks like candies, cotton candy, chips, hotdogs, or nachos in the area, I always end up with popcorn! There’s nothing as good as the smell of popcorn. Mmmm!
However, there are times that my husband and I prefer to stay home and watch a movie on cable TV. So, it’s a good thing my mom taught me how to make movie theater popcorn.
Morton Popcorn Salt
High quality popcorn kernels
Butter flavor seasoning
Butter flavor cooking spray
Heat the oil in a 4 quart flat bottom saucepan on medium high heat.
Prepare a heaping (higher than top of measuring cup) 1/2 cup of kernels for the pan, but keep them in the measuring cup for now.
Put 3 or 4 popcorn kernels into the oil and cover the pan.
When the kernels pop, add the rest of the 1/3 cup of popcorn kernels in an even layer. Cover, remove from heat and count 30 seconds.
Then shake a bunch of popcorn salt on top of it all quickly, and shake around the mixture to get all the kernels covered in the oily salt. Try to get the kernels into a single layer on the bottom of the pan. While the pan is still OFF the heat, cover it and WAIT 15 seconds or so.
Return the pan to the heat. The popcorn should begin popping soon, and all at once. Once the popping starts in earnest, gently shake the pan by moving it back and forth over the burner. Try to keep the lid slightly ajar to let the steam from the popcorn release (the popcorn will be drier and crisper). Once the popping slows to several seconds between pops, remove the pan from the heat, remove the lid, and dump the popcorn immediately into a wide bowl.
If you are adding butter, you can easily melt it by placing the butter in the now empty, but hot pan.
Spray top of popcorn in mixing bowl with butter flavor spray to get a good coating on the entire surface, about three seconds. IMMEDIATELY sprinkle butter flavor seasoning and more popcorn salt over it, one in each hand, at the same time, before the spray dries so it sticks.
And you’re done! You can now enjoy the great buttery, salty popcorn flavor and crunchy texture at home, just like from the movie theater!
Nothing goes better with a movie than a metric ton of fresh popcorn. Tweet this if you agreee with me.
